In years gone by, cake toppers were the standard way of personalising your wedding cake. However, toppers are increasingly a thing of the past, and instead there are new, creative ways to bring elements of your wedding day into your wedding cake design. In this post I’m sharing four ways to make your wedding cake design reflect you as a couple on your big day…
Choosing a colour scheme is one of the big wedding decisions and, once made, you can look at ways to weave your chosen palette through your day. Your wedding cake is a blank canvas and perfect place to incorporate your chosen hues. However, this doesn’t mean the entire cake has to be iced in a particular shade – choosing varying tiers to use coloured fondant icing can make a lovely feature without being too overpowering.
For even more ‘wow factor’, why not try edible sequins in one of your wedding colours, and match it with sugar flowers in another shade? If you’d like to keep all the icing classic white, you could add a splash of colour by just adding sugar flowers in your chosen hues – making the sweet blooms truly stand out from the blank canvas.
Make your wedding cake truly personal by adding your initials, wedding date or important words. This could be on the actual wedding cake itself (particularly if it is a longer caption), or you can add a short but sweet phrase to iced biscuits or mini-cakes.
If you’ve had a monogram designed for your wedding invitations and stationery, I can add it to your wedding cake using different techniques so the personalised thread flows through. If not, we can discuss different styles of letters at your wedding cake consultation in my Ringwood cake design studio.
If you’ve decided on your wedding flowers, chances are they will have been influenced by the season in which you’re getting married. I can personalise your wedding cake design by replicating your chosen blooms in finely-crafted sugar creations that look as realistic as your actual floral arrangements.
Is there a particular feature you’d like to incorporate? Perhaps you’d like to highlight a lace dress by adding edible lace to your wedding cake, or replicate a unique design feature of your venue by adding an intricate shape in icing. If you’re using a particular type of ribbon for you and your bridesmaids’ bouquets, I can add this in features such as a beautiful bow or around the base of the tiers.
Your wedding day is a hugely personal occasion and I believe this should translate to every aspect of your day – cake included! Bring along any ideas, colours and details to your consultation and we can create a wedding cake design that truly reflects you and your wedding. To find out more, submit an enquiry here.
